The Rule of Law

The rule of law is the principle that all people and institutions are subject to and accountable to laws that are fairly applied and enforced. It is an important principle of many legal systems, including those of most democracies. The rule of law helps to promote predictability, fairness, and stability in a society. It also helps to protect individuals and minorities from the arbitrary exercise of power by the government or other individuals. The rule of law is often contrasted with the idea of the rule of man, in which the laws and rules that govern a society are subject to the whims and desires of those in power.
